Supreme Court rejects Martinelli recusal ploy
THE PLENARY of the Supreme Court (CSJ) delivered another setback to Ricardo Martinelli’s defense team stalling tactics on Monday, July 2 when it announced that it had rejected “as inadmissible” an incident of recusal presented by against Judge Jerónimo Mejía, judge of guarantees in the process case of unauthorized interception of communications by the National Security Council in the last two years of his mandate.
Judge Abel Zamorano was the rapporteur of the appeal. The defense of the ex-ruler announced the challenge in a June 25 hearing., Luis Eduardo Camacho González, one of Martinelli’s lawyers, explained that the alleged cause was that Mejía has acted in different stages of the process: declared Martinelli “in absentia”, requested his arrest to the plenary of the Court and managed a note to the Foreign Ministry to request the extradition of the accused from the United States, among other procedures listed by Camacho.
